TROUBLESHOOTING NOTE

DMARC record not found: check the hostname before changing DNS

Updated

Not found means no DMARC policy was returned for the exact hostname queried. LabPuff does not perform organizational-domain fallback or authenticate a message.

Confirm the sending domain

Compare the submitted hostname with the From domain used by legitimate mail. Check _dmarc in the authoritative DNS zone and your email provider's instructions. A website subdomain may not be the mail domain.

Start with observation

Inventory senders and confirm SPF or DKIM alignment using real messages. A p=none policy is a normal monitoring step; review aggregate reports before asking receivers to quarantine or reject mail.

Recheck after publication

Publish one unambiguous policy under administrator review. Query it again after DNS caches refresh and test every sending service. Policy presence and relaxed/strict settings do not establish that those messages pass DMARC.

This guide explains a diagnostic workflow. Provider-specific configuration and actual messages or browser behavior require separate verification. The linked tools report bounded observations, not a complete audit.
