Sitemap Checker

Check /sitemap.xml for readable XML, sitemap structure and URL locations.

Public websites only. No signup. Results are not saved.

When to use this sitemap checker

Check a conventional sitemap.xml after launching a site or when a sitemap submission fails. The tool distinguishes an unreadable response from recognizable sitemap XML.

What to look for

  • Verify the HTTP response and whether the XML is a urlset or sitemap index.
  • Inspect listed locations and confirm that your intended canonical URLs are included.
  • If the sitemap lives elsewhere, consult its robots.txt declaration and your CMS settings.

How to read the results

Checks URL sitemaps and sitemap indexes at /sitemap.xml, up to 8 MB. Child sitemaps and listed pages are not fetched. Larger files are marked Couldn't check, not failed.

PASS marks a stated check that passed. WARNING deserves review. FAIL marks a failed check. INFORMATION reports a fact. Results are a snapshot from our server, not a score or certification.

Does a missing /sitemap.xml mean Google cannot index my site?

No. Google can discover pages through links, and a sitemap may exist at another path. This checker only requests /sitemap.xml and does not crawl listed URLs or child sitemaps.

Download your results as Markdown to save the observations or discuss them with your AI assistant. Reports include the check timestamp and limitations.
